
Dr. Tong has had multi-disciplinary exposure to law, healthcare, and education. In the legal field, he worked for the Hong Kong government, providing administrative support for legislative amendments. He is an unregistered barrister (England & Wales), a barrister and solicitor (New Zealand) (non-practicing), a solicitor (New South Wales, Australia), a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a registered foreign lawyer (Hong Kong), and an accredited general mediator (Hong Kong). In the healthcare industry, he has had extensive management experience and serves currently as a senior management staff in a private hospital in Hong Kong. In education, he has been teaching at universities on a part-time basis for many years, covering subjects such as legal translation, law, healthcare management, and special education policies.
Academically, Dr. Tong holds a master degree in educational studies, a degree in Doctor of Juridical Science, and a PhD, in addition to an LLB and LLMs. He has been co-editing reference books in English with other scholars and professionals on healthcare law, community care, and population ageing, etc. Dr. Tong has also published manuscripts for other books, worked as an editor and a reviewer for international academic journals, and helped organize international academic conferences. His research interests include human rights, medico-legal liabilities, legal issues in education, and “happiness” from the Confucian perspective.
